How To Be A Great Communicator

Communication is a struggle for many people. This is because they do not communicate effectively. Communication is a very important skill to learn in life. If you pick the skill early, then you will probably be successful at most things. This will also lead to an increase in self confidence. Below are a few tips that can help you with communication.

Be Clear
When communicating with others, they need to understand you. So your message should be clear. Don’t write too many words at once.
Ngozi had a problem with being clear. She loved telling stories to her friends but because she was not clear in her communication, they would switch off. Ngozi began to read a lot more and this helped her with communication.

Be Concise
One of the reason’s Ngozi friends switched off was because she was always going off point in a discussion.  They would be having an interesting conversation about a shop they visited and Ngozi would change the topic to something completely different like her grandma coming from the village. This frustrated her friends.

Be Concrete
In order to communicate effectively, you need to stay focused on the subject at hand. Have a clear picture about what you want to discuss. If you master the skill of staying focused, you are half way to becoming an effective communicator. Debbie was an effective communicator. She represented her school as a speaker for national debates. The reason she was so good was because her command of the spoken word was so solid and she kept her audience engaged.

Be Correct
Always check communication for spellings or grammar errors. Spell check does not always capture everything.  If it is a very important document like a job application, then get a friend to check it over for you. Don’t be in a hurry to hand it in. Make sure you double check it.

Be Consistent
Make sure your communication is consistent and logical. That means it flows from one point to the next.  Always begin with the most important point. Don’t surprise your audience with inconsistent information.

Be Complete
When communicating, your conversation or writing should have a start, middle and finish. Don’t intentionally leave out the end of the conversation otherwise it wont be complete. It may also leave the audience confused. If you are arranging a party for your friends then they need to have details such as date, time and venue. If you make a statement, end it.

Be Courteous
It is very important to be polite in communication. Always say please and thank you, even when writing. Do not be rude.  Rather be friendly and courteous. Remember people never remember what you say or do but they always remember how you make them feel.

As a valuable lady or girl, if you follow these tips you will have better communication skills and increased confidence.
